Ingredients

  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup basil leaves
  • 3 oz dark chocolate - mini chips or a bar

Steps

1) This recipe requires 2-3 days! 2) Simmer cream, milk, and sugar. 3) Whisking quickly, gradually add 1 cup of hot milk to egg yolks. Then return to pan to thicken (2-3 minutes). 4) Strain if necessary and allow to cool. 5) Blend in basil leaves. Cover and chill 2 days. 6) Blend again and strain into ice cream maker. Freeze. Meanwhile, grate chocolate. Once frozen, fold chocolate into ice cream. 7) Cover and freeze in freezer for at least 2 hours.
