Ingredients

  • 6-7 pounds apples
  • 2-21/2 cups cider or water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 11/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp alspice
  • 1/4 cup Lemon juice

Steps

1) Chop apples without peeling or coring them 2) Put in a pot and add cider 3) Cook until very soft 4) Put through a sieve or food mill 5) Measure 6) It should make 11-12 cups 7) Adjust remaining ingredients accordingly 8) Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves 9) Cook on high, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth 10) Pour into hot sterilized jars 11) (Boil 10 minutes to sterilize) Seal in water bath for 10 minutes
